Through cultural and social events, UMCP VSA members can collaborate and share common interests on local, national and/or international issues, which are relevant to the Vietnamese American community. My Role

Sports Chair (official), Graphic Designer, Webmaster

Main Website

Although my formal role on the 2020-2021 Executive Board for VSA was Sports Chair, I've expanded beyond my role to help in all areas to make VSA enjoyable to all members. With my tech/programming background, I stepped up to be the one keeping the VSA Website updated this school year.

Using my knowledge in HTML/CSS, I have:

  • Updated executive board, awards, and magazine information
  • Embeded a Google Calendar for Events so visitors will always have the most recent information
  • Added a gallery for the 2020-2021 Events for users to look back on past events
  • Created a sub-website describing our biggest, annual cultural event: Family Night
    • This is linked on the navigation bar

43rd Family Night Website (2021)

Family Night is VSA's annual Spring cultural show, showcasing Vietnamese culture. Each year, the VSA community, family, and friends come together to celebrate the hard work of the community and reminisce on the fond memories created through months of practice. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Family Night was a virtual experience through Youtube Livestream.

The Problem

  • How should we distribute our annual magazine that is given out at every Family Night?
  • How will we get word out that Family Night is still happening and convince them to come?
  • How do we show appreciation for our performers and student volunteers without a physical program?

Final Product

After iterating on feedback and getting logistics and information from other executive board members, the Family Night website is a sub-website under vsaumcp.com. The Family Night website opens up with this year's theme, highlighting the storyline of the culture show.

The webpage also has some unique features, including:

  • A different navigation bar, with options only pertaining to Family Night but also links back to the main website
  • An FAQs section, consolidating information on how this year's Family Night is different and how attendees can tune in
  • A digital program, solving the issue of how we would give credits and show the program schedule
  • A digital magazine, solving how we would reminisce on the school year's memories even without the ability of handing out physical copies
